The recordings on this album come from the second part of Jascha Heifetz’s extraordinary career. Ravel’s famous Tzigane was the only work in his recital repertoire at this time while his feverish interpretation of Chausson’s haunting Poème was the only one he committed to disc. Heifetz’s strong command of structure and attention to sensuous detail are evident in each of the recordings heard here, the music’s technical difficulties dispatched with consummate ease. His glorious 1935 recording of Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 can be heard on Naxos 8,110938.
